Dental crowns are tooth-shaped caps that cover a tooth to restore its natural shape and strength. Usually dental crowns take two visits to place, but by using CEREC® one-visit restoration technology, our dentists can place a crown in just one appointment. Dr. Nader and Dr. Resek may recommend a same-day dental crown in Oakmont, Pennsylvania, in the following situations:
- To prevent a weak tooth from breaking
- To hold together a cracked tooth
- To restore a worn down or broken tooth
- To support a tooth with a large filling
- To anchor a dental bridge
- To cover misshapen or discolored teeth
In preparation for a crown, our dentists may take some X-rays to check your tooth’s roots and the surrounding bone for decay. They will then remove a small amount of enamel from the tooth to allow room for the crown. Our dentists will make impressions of the tooth and the teeth above or below so the crown can be constructed. They will select a shade of porcelain that closely matches your teeth. Using CEREC technology, the custom crown will be constructed during your visit. Finally, we check the fit and color of the crown and then permanently cement it in place.
